Cerveza Nacional

Excerpt from Chapter 7: Opium of the People | Ocumo: A Latin American Novel

In this scene a cop tells reporter Maru Salinas that beer causes more trouble than drugs, and that Che Guevara was wrong about religion.

Ocumo: A Latin American Novel gives a take on the region’s complexities through the perspectives of a diverse group of characters, including an up-and-coming politician, a Black live-in maid, an anti-establishment entrepreneur and an ex-prostitute turned news reporter. It’s a highly relevant and timely story in light of the U.S.’s renewed interventionist policies and the emergence of a new generation of charismatic Latin American leaders, from Mexico and all the way down to Argentina.
